Targets & Objectives

Created in 1981, on the initiative of a handful of convinced supporters, the BROTHERHOOD OF GRUYERE is made up today of almost 1'400, ladies, gentlemen and companions.

The main object is the promotion of genuine Gruyère cheese, every effort being made to make this better known and encourage consumption. It is a party to all initiatives to promote it and show it to its very best advantage and also to defend it.

To attain these objectives, the BROTHERHOOD :

	organises every year, not only chapters in Switzerland, but also abroad, where new companions are enrolled
	encourages the publication of original works concerning gruyère cheese and supports, to the best of its possibilities, publicity to promote Gruyère cheese
	publishes every year a Review

Who can become companion?

All those interested in the cheese industry - and in particular that of Gruyère -
can become companions and swear a gastronomic oath to be faithful to Gruyère cheese.

Organization

The Brotherhood is organised in districts (Fribourg, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Jura, Vaud) covering the area forming the production basin of Gruyère. It operates through a Council of 12 members who benevolently and enthusiastically, but efficaciously, assume their various tasks. A committee of five treat everyday matters while the chancellery deals with administation and accounts.
