This is the first time for Moscow to hold the European curling championships. The competition will take place between December 2 – 10, 2011.
“The European and World Curling federation inspections’ results have shown that all necessary facilities for the championship meet the highest international standards. Russian Curling Federation includes highly qualified sports managers who are ready to hold the championship on the international level. The European Curling Championship in Russia will be one of the most important steps on the way to the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. Actually it will improve Russian’s prestige in the eyes of the world sport community.”- said Dmitry Svishchev (President of the Russian Curling Federation).
Previous European Championships in 2010 was hosted by the Swiss Champéry. Unfortunately Russian curlers had not medalled in this competition. Russian Women's Curling Team finished in the fourth position.
